BOOK REVIEW: Captured By Love

A story set in Michilimac Island,  1814 where the British have taken control and are forcing Americans to swear alligence to the Crown in order to keep their lands.  People are starving and suffering under their dominance.  Pierre Durant is a fur trapper who was raised on the Island and grew up there with his brother Jean and a young woman named Angelique MacKenzie.  Angelique has always been drawn to Pierre even as a young child.

This story has history, struggle, romance and some misguided loyalties. There is also a part of the story where Angelique has to try to survive under the "care"of her cruel guardian, Ebenezer.  He only cares about her as far as it will benefit him.  And he also tries to grind out any joy or freedom from her life. There is also a theme that runs through about God and trusting in his direction.  This story was well written with much depth but to be honest I had a hard time getting into it.  Just personal taste I guess.  I think that there will be others who will enjoy it much more than I did.

I received a free copy of this novel from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review program, and I am under no obligation to write a positive review.
