Book Review: A Match Made in Texas, : A Novella Collection
The starting point of all of these stories is the town of Dry Gulch, Texas. There is a mystery person busy helping people get together,; giving them a chance at love. She seems to know the needs to match up women in dire straits with men of good character. She really seems to have a good heart and wants to help all those that she anonymously interferes with. There will be acknowledgment of God in these stories, but not heavy handed in its use.
I took a chance when it came to selecting a book that was labeled a Novella. I haven't always had great luck with some of those that I have read. There have been a few exceptions and this one I am happy to say is one of them. Each one of the stories were just a bit different than the usual that you might expect but I like that. All of the stories could be stand alone stories but I like the way that they are all woven together and you find out at the end who the mystery matchmaker is!
A Cowboy Unmatched- Karen Witemeyer
This is Neill and Clara's story.
After reading this one I thought that it was a sweet charming story with just the right degree of danger and challenge. I really enjoyed it. I have read a few of Karen's stories before and liked them as well. Probably one of the reason's I chose this book is that I knew some of her work. I seem to remember reading other books about the Archer family and
really liked some of them.
An Unforeseen Match Regina Jennings
Clayton and Grace.
Clayton thinks he's looking to be part of the land rush because he wants his own land but a surprise newspaper ad leads him to Grace, who in her own way is trying to make her own way in uncharted waters.
I'm not sure I've read anything by this author before but I liked her writing.
No Match for Love by Carol Cox
Andrew and Lucy
Andrew needs someone to be a companion to his beloved aunt at her ranch . A ranch were some strange things have been happening. Lucy wants to get out of town so that she isn't a charity case, dependent on others. She also has a very determined suitor who she wants no part of. Our mystery woman helps them find each other and waits to see where this will go. Although I liked this story as well, I found it a little too shallow when it came to Andrew and Lucy story. The background stories going on were well done and detailed; it just seemed a little thinner on the romance part of the story.
Meeting Her Match by Mary Connealy
We finally find out who our matchmaking mystery woman is but I don't want to spoil it so I'm not going to say who.. I will say that she will find her in the midst of finding her own romance but you also get to see a lot of the grief that this tenderhearted woman has gone through in her life. It seems like "others" get to be the matchmaker this time, only for her and her soon to be discovered love.
This was really well written and I liked this one very much. It tied everything together and was such a joy to read.
I received this book FREE from Bethany House Publishers, A Division of Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for an honest reveiw.
