When we murmur and complain, it obviously does not release faith. It releases bitterness and hopelessness. Unfortunately, there is nothing more natural for us humans to do than murmur and complain. We are good at it. We don't have to be trained in the art of it. Little children can do it as soon as they learn to talk. If anyone did need lessons, however, the ancient Israelites would be the people to see. They were masters of it. They elevated it to an art form. God could bless their socks off one day, and the next day they would forget all about it and start murmuring and complaining again. The result was that when it came time for them to step out in faith on the edge of their Promised Land, they balked. They had no faith to step out. Their murmuring and complaining had shriveled their faith, and when they needed it the most, it was not there for them."
