Joshua Sinclair was once the fiercest and most notorious
warrior of the mighty Sinclair clan of Northern Scotland. But now
there’s nothing and no one that can make him take up arms again. Except a
beautiful woman, it seems.
When Kára Flett, daughter of a fallen
Norse chief, finds herself unexpectedly sheltering the strongest, most
brutal warrior in the land, she throws together a risky and outrageous
plan to bring him to her side. Threats of violence bounce right off him.
Offers of gold seem to entice him even less. Desperate enough to use
the pleas of the village children to sway him, she’s shocked when he’s
completely unmoved. There’s only one tactic left for her: seduction.
Her
hasty proposition falls completely by the wayside, though, as she and
the Highlander come together in a carnal inferno. But bringing him into
her life also brings his enemies to her clan’s doorstep—the very clan
Kára is trying to protect. And as their feelings deepen, Joshua will
have to decide between duty and love once and for all. AMAZON LINK

The beginning of the book has a glossary of a Scots Gaelic and Old English words used in the story. To be honest, it wasn't that hard to follow when they showed up in the story. Which I consider a good thing. Each Chapter also starts out with words from "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. The author also included an interesting Historical Note at the end of the book.
The people in the story were well developed starting with both of the main characters.
Kára Flett is someone that Joshua begins to see really is a warrior woman, a Warrior Queen. She is also a loving and fiercely protective person. Both to her young son and her people. She doesn't know what to make of Joshua Sinclair. She just knows that she has a mission to fulfill with The Horseman of War and she's not sure she can pull it off. One thing she is sure of is that she is wildly attracted to him. And he isn't slow to chase her either. They end up having "heated" scenes together but that doesn't overtake the story.
The villains in the story were also easy to "love to hate." And there's a whole family of them along with an extra bully, The Brute. It isn't all about just the bad guys because there are plenty of good people in the story. But it's not hard to follow and didn't give the feeling of being overwhelming.
Plenty of battles and makes you wonder if there's any way for a H.E.A. The twist at the end is a big one, a doozie of a surprise.
I was happy to see that there was a Epilogue as well.

This story was a slow building one with good main characters. It was also a clean story with plenty of mysteries. It's just a shame that I didn't like it more. I did give it points for being emotional and that the M.C.'s were a bit different than usual.
I do have to admit that it sometimes felt a bit confusing. Especially about the 3 day lapse. The ending while being a feel good H.E.A. also felt a bit rushed. Making me feel like it was kind of missing something. I don't want to give anything away with the plot so I'll just leave it right there.
Izzy Gallo has never been described as a member of the weaker sex. She's
a woman who doesn't take shit from anyone. Growing up with four older
overprotective brothers has hardened her, making her a force to be
reckoned with.
Against the wishes of her two brothers, Joe and
Mike, Izzy takes a weekend trip to Bike Week in Daytona, turning her
world upside down. Over her head, in a world she doesn't understand,
there's only one man who can save her.
James Caldo has dedicated
his life to protect and serve as a member of the DEA. He's cocky,
overbearing, and doesn't take no for an answer - the Gallo men have
nothing on him.
When their paths cross, James makes Izzy
question everything she believes about completely surrendering to the
opposite sex. Does James have what it takes to overpower the headstrong
Izzy, capturing her heart forever? AMAZON LINK

I had high hopes for this book but nope, it turns out it's really not for me. There was a story there but it was wrapped up deep with a lot of sex and sex talk.
The only reason I gave it 3 starts on Amazon was because James and Izzy had potential even though I felt they could have been more in the story . Also her family members were interesting but it isn't a story that I am keeping. It also had a cliffhanger of sorts. James and Izzy work things out but there is one thread that isn't finished and goes into the next book. One that I don't think I'll be following.
Sarah Pendleton was born into a life of wealth and privilege, raised in the shadow of her famous soprano mother and her father, an equally famous composer. Shy and retiring, Sarah has left behind the world she grew up in to make her own life in the coastal town of Santa Barbara, California.
A visiting University professor of Arabic literature from the small
oil-rich country of Taqara, Khalid Al Mansour is the eldest son of a
Taqaran diplomat and an independent American artist. He's never settled
down in one place, but that's because he's never found what he wanted...
until one evening he sees the lovely bellydancer at a small, smoky cafe
downtown. AMAZON LINK
I liked this story because it was different than a lot of the "Sheikh" stories. It was also colorful and descriptive of not only the culture that Khalid came from but also the foods, places and even the clothes that Sarah wore.
It was also refreshing that Khalid came from two worlds; that I wasn't expecting. The challenge of Khalid getting to know Sarah added to the story. She led him on quite the merry chase at first. A lot of it had to do with her thinking that he was interested in her as the exotic belly dancer only She couldn't see him being interested in her as boring old Sarah. This is something that is a reoccurring theme throughout most of the book. And after about 50% of the book I was ready for that attention to that morose feeling to end. She was so multi-talented but just couldn't see it. Although what a childhood she had been put through.
However, there is a big twist or two coming up that is totally unexpected but kept me liking the book. Well, in-between the tender but frequent sex scenes.
I received a copy of this book through BookFunnel and was not required to leave a review. All thoughts and words are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this whole story. And I fell in love with the whole Calhoun family, warts and all. And they had some "stuff" that they are still working through years later.
What a lovely man Chase was. It made me smile that so many of his siblings called him Mother because of his always taking care of them. He was nurturing and trying to make sure that they always had what they needed. The affection was so strong between each of them and their father. They weren't perfect and they knew it and loved their way through anyway. It was something that was unfamiliar to Charlotte/Charlie but she craves it when she sees it.
Charlie has grown up almost invisible in her family unless she tries to get out from under her father's controlling thumb. Then everything hits the fan. She's experienced coldness and threats from her father but no affection at all. Even her brother isn't a nice guy when it comes to her. You can see her thrive under the warmth of the Calhoun family.
I adored the interactions between Charlie, Chase and baby Zoe.
There were several surprise revelations towards the end of the book and a really good solution to the problems Charlie's father has caused. I was happy with that and the H.E.A. for Charlie and Chase.
