BOOK - A Captive Situation (Kings of New York) by Tijan (Author) Part of: Kings of New York (3 books)

AMAZON LINK

New York Times bestselling author Tijan delivers a bold romance about two people wrestling with emotional trauma, thrown into a deadly—and heated—power dynamic when the mafia comes after them both.

Every bride dreams of her wedding day.

Today was supposed to be that day for me, except it’s not me marrying my college sweetheart.

My best friend is doing that. Or, well, my ex–best friend.

Instead, I’m over a thousand miles away, riding the subway in a city where lost people come to dream.

Me—I’m just hoping to distract myself from my heartbreak.

That is, until I met Jake Worthing.

Grumpy.

Hot.

A total jerk.

Did I mention hot?

Also, extremely presumptuous.

Just because I look like I’m a thought away from a total meltdown does not mean I need an ambulance.

He had the audacity to ask if I needed medical treatment.

Well, good riddance to him.

I don’t ever have to see him again.

Except, well, I do when I’m taken to the police station for a total misunderstanding.

He walks in and…gah. He’s the same that I remember from our first meeting.

Brooding. Still gorgeous. (The universe is not fair sometimes.)

He’s stirring up emotions that I didn’t know were still inside of me.

Then someone tries to shoot him and I’m a witness, and…er, how is it that I’m the one being kidnapped?

And by Jake?

Now I’m heated for a whole different reason.

If I get myself out of this captive situation, I’m going to reign down my own destruction starting with Jake Worthing.

I just have to survive first and, also, not get my heart broken. Again.

MY BOOK REVIEW- TITLE:

It was a great Train Wreck to Ride !!!

This story gets a 5 Starts on my review !!!

Jake, whooho, hot enough have to fan yourself  like the story said ! Sawyer too,  but her ex did a great job of wearing her down and thinking she was trash !  And then he treated her like trash by kicking her to the curb, stealing everything she had.  And she didn't see it as spousal abuse until she met Jake ! Then it was like two matches igniting one stick of dynamite !!! Hot anger , yep they both had that !Although Sawyer had a soft side that Jake hasn't discovered yet. Kill to keep what he loves !! No problem for him. Neither has time for love, but they find it.  And so do some fierce family members  !!! Some fighting for them and some fighting against them.  It was a great Train Wreck to Ride !!!

BOOK REVIEW- Dead Again by Tracy Cooper-Posey

They killed him—now they’re back for any survivors.

Sophie Ryerson, divorced mother of two, is struggling to make a go of her small town café and raise her children. The man she loved is dead—has been for ten long years. Jack Laubreaux saved her life after their plane crashed in the rugged Rockies, then died of his own injuries. But she still misses him, so when a drifter who reminds her of Jack shows up in Serenity Falls, she’s drawn to him.

Martin Stride just wants a job and a warm place to sleep for the cold Rocky Mountain winter. That’s about all life has to offer him these days. He would have stayed out of this small Montana town if he’d known a pretty woman would take a fancy to him. That never ends well for him.

His pursuers let him live, as long as he settled for not having a life. But this time, he can’t seem to make himself walk away. Which means he’ll have to protect Sophie and her family, with no one to depend on but a corrupt local sheriff who wants her too.

Small town law enforcement isn’t equipped to handle a deadly Chicago crime lord whose power extends into state government and beyond. Can Martin assemble them into a team? Because this time, he’s not running. This time he’ll use all resources to stir up the power elite until he reaches the rot at their dark core.AMAZON LINK

This was a short story that was weird in the beginning.  It really kind of put me off at first. I kept reading it though and things did become much clearer when it came to what was going on.
It became a haunting romance, that wouldn't let go.
Would I read another book by this author? Yes.

The First Noelle A Second-Chance Christmas Romance (Christmas Holiday Extravaganza) by Delia Latham (thru Michigan eLibrary)

Noelle Joy stopped celebrating Christmas ten years ago, when Trevor Holden skipped out on their long-planned Christmas Eve wedding. He destroyed her trust in men, crushed her belief in God, and left her cynical about love. Gone is the bright, cheery spirit of the girl she thinks of now as “the first Noelle.” Stronger and savvier, the new Noelle would never be found waiting at the altar for a groom who didn’t show. When a famous-but-mysterious architect commissions her to decorate his mansion for a holiday event, Noelle finally returns to her hometown. Even as she finds an unexpected peace in facing ghosts from the past, her fiercely private client disturbs her. Michael Holliday is kind and considerate, but far too handsome…and hauntingly familiar.Holliday didn’t choose Noelle to make his home a Christmas wonderland by accident. She’s the only one who can do the job he has in mind—and once she’s in his mansion, he never wants to let her go. But he’s hiding a secret that could destroy any chance of a relationship with the beautiful decorator.A false persona. A shattering secret. Can love break down these insurmountable walls?

MY REVIEW-   TITLED :Christmas Never Looked Better !!!

This was such an engaging Christian Christmas story. I loved both of the main characters and their emotions !!!
Noelle had shut herself off from everyone . becoming known even in her successful business, as an ICE QUEEN !
One of the things that i liked was when this came up :
Noelle Joy struggled for breath that seemed inadequate.  Michael Holliday was dubbed Holliday the Phantom Philanthropist.
Michael had some seriously dangerous secrets !!!
The story had a great outcome which I also enjoyed  !!!

Read & Review Program.-Book Title: I Played My Best for Him! The Inspiring Stories Behind the Little Drummer Boy and Other Christmas Favorites-due in 24days

Christmas carols, Stories behind carols

AMAZON

Introduction
I have thoroughly enjoyed writing “I Played My Best for Him!”
The inspiration came when I read the story behind “O Holy
Night” at an event in December 2023. I thought it was fascinat-
ing and started looking into the stories behind other Christmas
carols. Having just recorded Peju Sings! The Little Drummer Boy
and Other Christmas Favorites, I was motivated to learn about the
stories behind all thirteen songs on the album and compile them
in a book! As with most other things, it ended up being a lot
more work than I initially anticipated. Some details that have
become “embedded” in a few of the stories are not verifiable (or
have been debunked), so separating fact from fiction was a bit of a
challenge. Some of the “facts” reported by sources that were

conidered reliable were contradicted by other sources. Regardless,
the stories are full of intriguing details about people who have
blessed us with the gift of Christmas music. In some cases, where
there has been enough reason to doubt often-repeated aspects
of the stories, I have included a brief discussion addressing the
details that are in question. I have attempted, to the best of my
ability, to present accurate versions of the story.

MY REVIEW OF THIS BOOK:

It has a living legacy and the song has been SUNG and PERFORMED by MANY FAMOUS  PERFORMERS !!!  I've ALWAYS loved this song, sung at Christmas Time.

It's nice to be able to add a bit of History to it origins with this EXCEPT:

Katherine Kennicott Davis died in 1980 at 87 and left all her
royalties and proceeds to the music program at Wellesley College.
Her legacy lives on through the music she created and no doubt,
through the impact of her generosity. The words “I played my
best for Him” in “The Little Drummer Boy,” spoken by a little
boy who had no money, serve to remind us that sometimes the
greatest gifts are things that money can’t buy. He had a drum,
and he played his best for the new-born King. We, too, can use
our gifts, resources and talents to make a difference in the world.

And I think that sums up both the song and this story. It earned from me a

5 Star Rating !

BOOK TO REVIEW- THE DOORMAN BY CHRIS PAVONE

A pulse-pounding novel of class, privilege, sex, and murder, from the New York Times bestselling author of Two Nights in Lisbon and The Expats.

Chicky Diaz is everyone’s favorite doorman at the Bohemia, the most famous apartment house in the world, home of celebrities, financiers, and New York’s cultural elite.

Up in the penthouse, Emily Longworth has the perfect-looking everything, all except her husband, whom she’d quietly loathed even before the recent revelations about where all the money comes from. But his wealth is immense, their prenup is iron-clad, and Emily can’t bring herself to leave him. Yet.

And downstairs in 2a, Julian Sonnenberg—who has carved himself a successful niche in the art world, and led a a good half-century of a full and satisfying, cosmopolitan life—has just received a devastating phone call that does nothing at all to alleviate his sense that, probably for better and worse, he has aged out and he’s just not that useful to anyone any more.

Meanwhile, gathered in the Bohemia’s bowels, the building’s almost entirely Black and Hispanic, working-class staff is taking in the news that that just a few miles uptown, a Black man has been killed by the police, leading to a demonstration, a counterdemonstration, and a long night of violence across the tinderbox city.

As Chicky changes into his uniform for tonight’s shift, he finds himself breaking a cardinal rule of the job: tonight, he’ll be carrying a gun, bought only hours earlier, but before he knew of the pandemonium taking over the city. Chicky knows that there’s more going on in his patch of sidewalk in front of the Bohemia than anyone’s aware of. Tonight in the city, enemies will clash, loyalties will be tested, secrets will be revealed—and lives will be lost.

MY REVIEW:

Chicky was quite the interesting person; I liked him a lot. Whit was a character that I didn't like in the beginning and still didn't like him in the end either.. But he sure kept things interesting !!This is the first book that I have read by Chris Pavone.  I liked how it started out strong.  It did drag down a bit for me in the middle because of all the different tenants in the building and the not so good characters outside the building.  Each tenant did have a very full backstory and the atmospheres of each place they owned was very well described ! However, I did get lost with who was with who when it came to couples. And just as I thought I had a handle on them, there was a lot of bed hopping on both sides of the couples.
Things did get better the further I went along and I ended up liking it a lot because like in the beginning place Chicky started things off with a bang and the story ended the same way! Breathtaking ending !
I hope to give a try to some of the other stories by this author again !!

BOOK TITLE- GRAVEWATER LAKE: A THRILLER BY A.M. STRONG

description

It was INTENSE ! I kept thinking Some of this is VERY familiar even though it does keep repeating some parts and it does switch back and forth between her past and what actually happened and then to her current fears because of her amnesia. THEN, I REMEMBERED. The reason for that is because I had read a SAMPLE of this book and liked it so much that I ordered the FULL story ! I loved the main character whoever she really turned out to be. She had several name and several different personality careers. The same can be said about the the strange man whose door she ended up at. Like him, too and somehow trusted him too like the main character. I'm trying not to give too much about the story, because I don't want to ruin the suspense for other readers. I liked the ending HOWEVER. It does involve suspense again, in how the love story ends ! I'm torn but I liked that I could make up my own ending too. Which I did like a lot !

Plain Jane and the Sheik Plain Jane and the Sheik (BOOKSPROUT) by Tmonique Stephens Review by Apr 15, 2025

 Plain Jane and the Sheik

Dear Sperm Donor,

I’m done pretending you give a damn about me. It took me a while because I’m an idiot, but I finally get it. Don’t worry about me bothering you anymore. I’m done. You don’t give a crap about me and want nothing to do with me. That’s fine because the feeling is mutual.

I know you think I’m a loser. I’m a mistake. All this time, you’ve gotten away with ignoring me, pretending I don’t exist. Well, now you don’t exist. You're dead to me.

And that's how Sheik Davien al Murad, cousin to the prince of Qari, discovered he had a teenage daughter and an aunt who reminded him of the love he'd lost.

  • Bullets and Kisses Can Burn

The last person Anna Albertini expects to see in an orange jumpsuit in District Court—a place she SO doesn't belong as a new prosecuting attorney—is Irishman Aiden Devlin, the man who’d saved her life when they were kids. For years, she has dreamed about him. Now here he is—his eyes blue, his chest wide, and his hands in cuffs.

Sure, Aiden says he doesn’t want her help, and his ties to a deadly motorcycle club should give her warning. His kisses are both dangerous...and addictive. Also, her new boss is a sexy Italian bad boy who might be using the case to climb to the top, while the detective assigned to the case wants her to stay out of his way.

With so much testosterone surrounding her all of a sudden, most women would find it hard to concentrate. This might be why the case leads Anna to a disastrous spa appointment, a run-in with a tree, and chase with a nude old man around a courtroom. It’s a good thing Anna learned a long time ago to be her own hero, no matter how fast the bullets fly or the kisses consume.

I LOVED this book. Anna and Aiden with his bad-boy Irish attitude and the accent to his voice were exceptional as she fought her attraction to him.  Aiden? He was fighting that attraction AT ALL ! That made for pretty funny conversations even during the dangerous attacks that were going on !
I would read this book over and over again !!!  And I have !!

I titled my review on Amazon :
Aiden just can't help himself. Lol
