Sadie Sillsby is assistant to the Matron of Raystown Home . Its a home for orphans and a place for children to stay while their families need help. Its a job that she loves and understands; she came to live there herself at a very young age; rescued from a terrible life. She thrived and fell in love with Blaine and they have plans to marry . Unexpected changes give her an opportunity to be of Matron of the Home; but it also threatens her hope of a life with Blaine. You see, any Matron of Raystown has to remain single. Two separate passions and dreams are about to collide.
I liked this sweet, unusual story; with the different children, staff and challenges of not only meeting a meager budget for the Home but also the many needs of each individual child. I don't remember reading very many stories set in an Orphanage; that weren't totally dreary and Oliver Twist- like. Even with all the things that were being faced, it was uplifting and believable. It was also very good to see Sadie go from a young woman of trying to do it all; to realizing she can't and beginning to see that there may be others who have skills that she doesn't. Also very vulnerable when she begins to see her true motives may not be as noble as she thinks. It was good to follow her as she begins to heal from the horrific beginnings of her young life that she thought she had left behind.
I received this book FREE from Bethany House (through Baker Publishing Group) in exchange for an honest review.
